The Quarter in the City

  • Capturing New Orleans Culture

Our Media Scholars documented the sights, sounds, and flavors of the French Quarter Festival, the largest free music festival in the South. From live performances on multiple stages to the energy of the crowds, they showcased the rich cultural heartbeat of New Orleans through photography, video, and written stories.

  • Behind-the-Scenes Access

Scholars went beyond the music to capture the stories of artists, food vendors, and festival organizers, giving audiences a deeper look at what makes the French Quarter Fest special. This behind-the-scenes storytelling highlighted the hard work and creativity that fuel the city’s most beloved cultural celebration.

  • Hands-On Learning in a Festival Setting

Covering a festival of this scale gave scholars invaluable experience managing fast-paced media coverage, balancing interviews, live updates, and content creation. This hands-on learning environment strengthened their ability to tell authentic stories and built professional portfolios that stand out in the media industry.

FQF for the Win

For the Media Scholars, covering the French Quarter Festival was an unforgettable opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and spirit of New Orleans. With access to multiple stages and festival grounds, scholars captured live performances from local and national artists, the excitement of the crowds, and the vibrant food scene that defines this beloved community celebration. They learned how to adapt quickly in a festival environment—balancing photography, videography, interviews, and live content creation across a sprawling, fast-moving event.

A+ Performance

Beyond the performances, scholars gained behind-the-scenes access to artists, vendors, and organizers, documenting the personal stories that bring the French Quarter Fest to life. This combination of cultural storytelling and technical practice challenged them to think creatively about how to capture both the energy and authenticity of the festival.

Most importantly, the experience helped students grow as media professionals. By navigating the demands of real-time coverage, building diverse portfolios, and amplifying the voices of the community, the scholars walked away with confidence, industry-ready skills, and a deepened understanding of what it means to tell powerful, culturally rooted stories.
